Pontiacs Fire Power Too Much For Mustangs
Posted December 7th, 2016 @ 12:26 am

A well rested Pontiacs team took out an exhausted Mustangs team on Tuesday night by a 7-1 score.

The game started out well for the boys in blue and gold as on the power play, Ethan Kopyczyn (assists to Tayden Woods and Salvatore Scalise @7:31) fired a one-timer behind Pontiacs (starting) goaltender Robert Jacobson to make it 1-0. Just 15 seconds after that Luke Isreal (assist to Charlie Gawlicki @7:46) had the puck bounce off his chest and over Mustangs (starter) Michael Barabash. Bonnyville would take the lead on the power play when Ryan Symington (assists to Alden Dupuis and Gen Bryshun @17:17) put a shot under Barabash's blocker. Jake Gresh (assist to Ryan Symington @19:34) was left untouched and snapped a wrist shot from the point over the shoulder of the Calgary netminder. Shots favored the Pontiacs 23-7 in the opening frame. Both teams would go 1/2 on the power play.

Bonnyville would come out flying in the second period and would be rewarded with a pair of goals. Brendan Holterhus (assists to Mitchell Oliver and Ryan Piche @9:49) would get sprung on a breakaway and backhand a shot over Barabash to make it 4-1. Isaac Saniga (assists to Trygve Many Guns and Riley Perka @ 11:34) on the rebound would sweep the puck along the ice under the pad of the Calgary goaltender. Shots would favor the Pontiacs 21-12 in the second and 44-19 in the hockey game. Bonnyville would go 0/2 (1/4 in the game) on the power play while the Mustangs were 0/4 (1/6 in the game).

The Pontiacs would add to their lead with a pair of goals in the third frame. On the power play, Ryan Piche (assists to Mitchell Oliver and Brendan Holterhus @7:34) hammered a shot from the point under the glove of Barabash. Brandon Whistle (assists to Ryan Symington and Mitchell Oliver @9:42) would redirect a shot from Symington to make it 7-1 Bonnyville. Shots favored the Pontiacs 16-9 in the third and 60-28 in the hockey game. Bonnyville would finish the game 2/5 on the power play while Calgary ended up 1/6 with the man advantage.

The boys in blue and gold will look to bounce back on Friday night as they continue their six game home stand against the Drayton Valley Thunder. Puck drop for that game will be at 7:30 at the Father David Bauer Arena.
