WEEKEND PREVIEW: Mustangs look to finish off homestand on a winning note

Calgary, AB – The Mustangs look to finish off their homestand with 3 tough matchups against 3 tough opponents.

CALGARY MUSTANGS

After 3 days off, the Calgary Mustangs are back in action tonight at Father David Bauer Arena, as they host the Camrose Kodiaks, in game 2 of a 4 game homestand. The Mustangs are coming off a wild and high scoring Sunday afternoon, a 7-6 win over the visiting Old Grizzlys. Things are looking close in the Viterra AJHL South Divisions, as 5 teams battle for second place in the standings; Calgary only sits 4 points back from second as of November 20.

Players to Watch: Mustangs Captain Brady Barclay is coming off a career first hat trick performance from last game against Olds. Through 22 games this season, Barclay has 8 goals and 11 assists, tied for second on the team. Daniel Rybarik is rolling as he is on a 5 game point streak. The Mustangs forward has 6 Goals and 2 assists in those last 5 games.

The Camrose Kodiaks are looking to bounce back with a win after dropping a 6-1 loss to the Bonnyville Pontiacs. That loss was the Kodiaks' first regulation time loss in 11 games, dating back to Oct. 16 game against the Brooks Bandits. The last meeting between these two teams happened Nov. 16, last Friday night at Encana Arena where the Kodiaks beat the Mustangs 5-3.

Player to Watch: Camrose defenseman Zach Vinnell leads the back end in points for Camrose, and is just 4 points shy of 100 career AJHL points. Vinnell has 3 points in 2 games against the Mustangs this season.

Sunday November 25 vs Whitecourt Wolverines

Powerplay: 17.43% (10th)   Penalty Kill: 82.50% (10th)
Last 5 Games: 1-3-1
Season Series: 1-0 vs. the Mustangs

The Wolverines are looking get back in the win column, as they have lost their last 2 games and have only 3 wins in their last 10 games. This is the second meeting between Whitecourt and Calgary; the two teams previously squared off at Scott Safety Centre on October 6 resulting in a 6-1 win for the Wolverines. They will play on RBC Ambassador Night.

Player to Watch: Defenseman Adam Sandstrom, a player the Wolverines recently acquired in a trade with the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Sandstorm has 2 points in his first two games with the Wolverines and is looking to keep that going.

Tuesday November 27 vs  Brooks Bandits

The number 1 ranked team in the CJHL comes into Calgary riding a 8 game win streak and have shown no signs of slowing down, as the Bandits are 22-2-0 this season. The Bandits look to remain perfect this season against the Mustangs in the 2nd meeting between the teams, Game 1 saw Brooks down Calgary 6-3.

Player to Watch: Ray Christy had a monster performance in a 6-3 win over the visiting Drayton Valley Thunder; Christy had 1 goal and 4 assists for a total of 5 points. In the last meeting with the Mustangs, the Brooks forward had 2 assists in the win.
