Calgary, AB – The Calgary Mustangs fell 4-1 to their South Division rivals, the Okotoks Oilers this past Sunday. Stangs forward Brady Barclay opened the games scoring at the 5:52 marker of the first; the 21-year-old snapped a four-game goalless drought, netting his 14th goal of the season beating Oilers net minder Brady Parker.
The Mustangs offense would run dry following Barclay's goal, however. Before the end of the opening frame the Oilers would tie the score at one goal a side, with Ryan Grant putting one past Ben Howard. The 2nd period saw several scoring opportunities, but both goalies stood tall to preserve the 1-1 tie heading into the 3rd.
The final frame was dominated by the Oilers; Kyle Gordon netted his eleventh and twelfth goals of the season. Mustang would fire plenty of puck towards Parker, but the Oilers goalie kept them sealed following their lone first period goal. Okotoks would finish it with an empty netter from Quinn Olsen to cap off the 4-1 victory.
Calgary would be back at Father David Bauer just two days later against the Olds Grizzlies. It was a scoreless game for the first twenty-three minutes before Calgary defenseman Tyler Lentz would bury one past Olds goalie Jay Thomson, giving his team a 1-0 lead heading into the final period.
The Mustangs’ offense would explode in the 3rd, scoring six goals. It began with a powerplay tally from Joel Krahenbil at the 2:44 mark, followed by Kris Bladen just under two minutes later. Calgary would fire two more goals past Thomson in under four minutes, including Noah Kim’s first of the season, and Krahenbil’s second of the game. In the final four minutes of the game Krahenbil would complete his hat trick, while Andres Bridgewater would add a 7th goal, completing the Mustangs’ late game offensive surge.
